Dragonflies are typically larger and more robust than damselflies. The fore- and hindwings are unequal in size, there is no narrowing at the wing bases, and the wings are held open. The eyes are not widely separated and, in fact, are touching in all families other than the Petaltails and Clubtails. Dragonflies are strong flyers and may often be seen patrolling streams and rivers or darting about above ponds and lakes. Like damselflies, they have three main body parts: head, thorax, and abdomen.
